Those are the words I’ve been waiting to hear since Cloverfield came out in theaters last January. JJ Abrams ran a panel at Wondercon this past week/end to discuss his latest hit television show Fringe and while on the panel he was asked about the Cloverfield sequel and what’s going on with that. Below is his response.
“We’re actually working on an idea right now,” Abrams told the packed crowd. “The key obviously at doing any kind of sequel, certainly this film included, is that it better not be a business decision. If you’re going to do something, it should be because you’re really inspired to do it. It doesn’t really have to mean anything, doesn’t mean it will work, but it means we did it because we cared, not because we thought we could get the bucks. We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we’re playing with, which means there will be something that’s connected to ‘Cloverfield,’ but I hope it happens sooner than later because the idea is pretty sweet.“
So there you have it, they are currently working on something and, at least, JJ wants it to happen sooner than later. So that’s good news for all us Cloverfield fans out there and it also means that this website will have a purpose again! So keep this site bookmarked and add us to your twitter feed (click the bird in the upper right) to stay up on all the latest happenings with the sequel. If/when this whole thing goes down I plan on opening up a new forum dedicated strictly to Cloverfield, unlike the last one that was just a mess of stuff.

Everyone here remembers Slusho! The magical drink from Japan that turned out to have no real significance in the movie itself. Well apparently as a “goof” JJ Abrams decided to give it a cameo in the new Star Trek movie. Apparently it makes an appearance in the bar scene where Kirk first meets Uhura. Abrams said that it doesn’t have anything to do with anything really (in terms of Star Trek), it was just a fun sort of easter egg for fans of Cloverfield and Alias. So don’t expect to see HUD making a bootleg video of the Enterprise in the background of shots or the Cloverfield monster destroying stuff. Although, if you’ve watched the trailer for Star Trek there is a crazy looking creature that does resemble Clovie…hmmm.
Anyways, if you want to read the entire article/interview with JJ about the Star Trek movie, head on over to MTV.

With the lack of information regarding Cloverfield 2 we’ve turned our attention elsewhere for the time being. We launched a site dedicated to the Avengers movie along with Iron Man 2, Captain America and Thor a few months back and it’s been thriving ever since. And due to the popularity of the site we have added a forum to the mix. What better way for people to discuss movies than with a forum dedicated to that movie. It worked well with Cloverfield and we hope it will be just as successful with The Avengers. So if you enjoyed discussing Cloverfield with fans of the movie and are looking forward to The Avengers, Iron Man 2, Captain America and Thor then please join us over at http://www.avengersnews.com/forum

There is some more chatter from Matt Reeves regarding a sequel to Cloverfield. He recently gave an interview to MTV about the status of the sequel and what ideas they were throwing around. Apparently the studio wants a sequel, of course, but they want to make sure they have an interesting story to tell. And that story may or may not take place right after the original. Reeves mentions that they threw around the idea of having the monster attack Japan and having the story kind of “intersect” with the original movie, but not necessarily follow it or come before it. I’m just happy they are still having discussions about the sequel and of course whenever I hear anything, I will post it here. So make sure you sign up for the mailing list on the right side of the page. You will be emailed when there are new posts here and only when there are new posts. I will not email you for anything else, or spam you with any crap, strictly Cloverfield News.
